Black Friday

I really had no intention of doing Black Friday at all this year until yesterday afternoon when Ixy said, "So where are we starting with Black Friday tomorrow?" She found a camera that she liked in the Circuit City 6 hour deals so we were in line at 4:30 and it was a really nice crowd (unlike that in New York at Walmart).

They didn’t have the camera that she wanted and we were the first in the store to ask for it. They told us that they didn’t receive any to sell. They did sell us the printer that is free after rebate and only available with the purchase of a camera. It was only fair. While I was standing in line for the printer my sister called from New Hampshire, it seems her Target was sold out of the big Lego item she wanted for her son. Well, Target is across the parking lot from Circuit City and ours wasn’t open yet. So we headed over there next. We scored the item and now have to figure out how to ship it across country.

We added a new tradition to Black Friday though. Shopping now ends with a pedicure at the first place we find open. That was wonderful.

Just a reminder...

Anxiety doesn't attack. In most situations if I feel I am a victim, I'm the one who put me there and I'm the one who can choose to leave. A difficult conversation is probably a lot worse in my mind than in reality.

People treat me the way I let them. I should not put up with disrespect.

Quilting Emergency...

So I've had the urge to work on my Christmas quilt for awhile. I had my fabrics laid out and my daughter picked up my gold fabric and said "you aren't seriously using this are you? " So at 8:30pm we were racing down to the quilt shop to find a different light colored fabric. As we walk in, my son turns to the owner and says, "We're here because my mom has a quilting emergency!"

We found a cream with penquins, a cream with Christmas candy and a cream with candy canes. I also grabbed the green of the Christmas candy pattern. My daughter grabbed a black with white and gold poinsettias on it. It's not a light but I think it it might work.

Now to just finish up the rest of the 56 blocks...

No guests for Thanksgiving?

Usually I invite 40 or so people to dinner, this year I only had 2 who confirmed they could come. In the last several days, both of them canceled. It's going to be odd just having dinner with family this year.

Maybe it's a good thing though, since I have to work Thursday morning anyway.

Met with a career coach...

And she suggested that since I know what I want to be when I grow up (managing assets at home, selling stitching designs as a hobby, and writing stories for publication) I should focus on jobs which help me learn what I need in order to succeed at where I want to be. It hit me that the accounting portion is where I'm weak. So I tweaked my resume to show more of my accounting skill and I'm now looking for work in a segment where everyone is getting laid off. Not too bright, huh?

Accounting rotation?

I'm seeing more and more accounting jobs listed. I had a professor who told us that all MBA students should do an accounting rotation. Maybe it's time for mine?

Okay, I'll join the shuffle...

I saw this on both Whizgidget's and Erin's blogs. I think I knew one of the songs on Erin's blog.

So, here are the rules!

Step 1: Put your iPod or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the 1st line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. And it doesn't have to be perfect if you can't understand the lyrics word for word.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

Okay, I'm afraid it's really eclectic...I will seriously be amazed if anyone can get all these even by cheating...(there is filk in here folks!)

The Election results...

Well, now that I'm out of school - I can return to my regular election activity: sitting at the desk greeting my neighbors and signing them in as they vote. Today at the polls was incredible. The results of early voting and the new mail in ballots resulted in 30% of the 1354 people in the two precincts I oversaw having their say before the polls even opened today. Usually we only have a 30% turn out. Today we had 68.61% voting. This really excited me. We had so many new voters, it was incredible. We did have one voter who insisted on casting a paper ballot instead of using the electronic machines. He gave us a synopsis of the Numb3rs episode where the elections were rigged from the level of the algorithm in the voting machines.

The more I think about it though, subtracting that 30% we only had 38.31% come to the polling place today, and that is about average.

My only comment on the election results comes from Benjamin Franklin..."When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."

Two of my dragons are sick...

I've fogged the sick ones until I can figure out how to make them better. I've named them too. I used either parents or grandparents names to create the new names. Yes, it's a stereotypical Utah way of naming kids but it seemed appropriate for dragons.
So I have Nev's Rose, Govnoran, Niadonis, and Haniyaka.

Just a thought from books I'm reading...

If you don't have a overriding passion, every new idea will sway you and distract you so there is no focus.

I can see that in my own life, I can be passionate about everything and nothing. What I am passionate about this week may be passe' next week. It probably explains my stack of unfinished projects. I started finishing ornaments last week and I have everything cut out and the padding glued but not one has been stitched together. The bookmark got finished; only because I did it waiting for the glue on the padding for the other ornaments to dry.

I'm sure there are other things in my life that suffer from my distraction. After all, I still haven't sent back my husband's CUB's cap that is the wrong size.
