My Daughter is working in a Cat house
and the reptile room and the elephant enclosure...
She's been hired to do summer education at the zoo. She's been studying wildlife biology/environmental science and this is her dream summer job until she's further along in her program and can do internships.
New Titles, same job
So after this week at work, several of my co-workers have determined that I have a new title - Crisis Manager. Personally I would prefer Service Recovery Specialist but considering that they throw every crisis at me perhaps Crisis Manager is appropriate. But then, what company wants to really admit that they have Crises so often that they have to have someone who does nothing but manage them.
My typical day consists of Service Recovery for clients and employees of clients, gathering the data to drill down to the real issues, solving problems for any and all departments, calming people down and pointing them in the direction of solutions, and proposing proactive processes which will prevent problems (that is amazingly alliterative).
So, would that title draw your attention on a resume? What would you think about it?
A horoscope that I needed to hear today...
You have a lot of beauty and strength that people don't often get a chance to see -- ask yourself why that is, today. Are you afraid to show your true colors to the world? Wake up to the fact that there are plenty of people in your life who want to see you shine -- with all of your light! More people are interested in you, for more diverse reasons, than you truly understand. You are missing an amazing opportunity by standing on the sidelines of your own life. Be yourself!
A beautiful quote from Pope John Paul...
It is not wrong to want to live better; what is wrong is a style of life which is presumed to be better when it is directed towards "having" rather than "being", and which wants to have more, not in order to be more but in order to spend life in enjoyment as an end in itself.75 It is therefore necessary to create life-styles in which the quest for truth, beauty, goodness and communion with others for the sake of common growth are the factors which determine consumer choices, savings and investments. In this regard, it is not a matter of the duty of charity alone, that is, the duty to give from one's "abundance", and sometimes even out of one's needs, in order to provide what is essential for the life of a poor person. I am referring to the fact that even the decision to invest in one place rather than another, in one productive sector rather than another, is always a moral and cultural choice. Given the utter necessity of certain economic conditions and of political stability, the decision to invest, that is, to offer people an opportunity to make good use of their own labour, is also determined by an attitude of human sympathy and trust in Providence, which reveal the human quality of the person making such decisions.
Wishlists
Wouldn't it be cool if people would register for house warming presents the way people register for wedding or baby shower gifts? I'm sure that someone does it somewhere I just don't know where to go to find the registry. I do appreciate the rise in websites with Wishlists since it becomes easier to get gifts for friends and relatives. I'm not sure how effective wishlists really are though, in my case, because I can't think of a time that anyone has purchased anything off my wishlist, even the one that was pre-internet that I used to give to my husband just prior to Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas or my birthday.
Not to mention, you have to know the user name to access the wishlist's on some websites and do you really know the user names that your friends and family use? I know my kids user names but I don't think that I know any of my siblings' user names. I have to admit that my use of wishlists is to keep track of things that would normally be impulse purchases. It's fun to go back several months later and wonder why I ever thought that I wanted the item on the list. At least it saved me from spending money on things that I didn't want 6 months after I would have purchased them.
and the good new is...
In 2 weeks DH can start using his left leg for balance but still should not put any weight on it. I'm excited because this is 4 weeks ahead of schedule. It will still be March or so before he can drive again but just using his foot for balance should help to lower his fear level about complications.
