A weekend challenge

75% of people are afraid of starting a conversation with a stranger. The only greater fear is public speaking. Or so says the author of the book I'm reading right now. So, if I'm going to do these exercises to improve my speaking ability, I'm going to invite you to do them too. And please, let me know how it goes!

When you're out and about this weekend, take the time to introduce yourself to someone and ask them a question.
There are so many places and ways to do it?

At the grocery store: Do you enjoy that brand? What do you like about it?

At a restaurant: Have you been here before? What do you recommend? or even easier, learn your waiter's name and something about them.

At a theater: What are you here to see? What films have you enjoyed? What do you think about ??'s latest work?

Anywhere: So what's your opinion of....

Well, I like that idea. I'd just be afraid of getting shot. I swear people would call the funny farm to take me away if I did that.

In the small community where I live, I might just get an odd look and then they'd answer me. But anywhere close to Toronto itself ? LOL It'd be like an episode of Hidden Camera :)

Sad or what ?

Sounds like a very interesting book though - what's the title ? I'm always wanting to work on my communication/public speaking skills.

I found when I moved from the burbs to the wack that strangers talked to me all the time. Now I do it too and it doesn't weird me out anymore!

I did that yesterday at the library about a book that someone was holding. And with the lady who came over with her kids to sell us girl scout cookies about a half hour ago. DH joined that conversation.

We do that all the time!

I talk to strangers All of the time. At the store, at the school, at a restaurant, at the movie theatre (before a movie).

OTOH, speaking in front of people for a project makes me shake so bad I look like I need drugs.

I did it Friday at the DMV! THe lady who was processing my FL driver's license, was very nice, her name was Anne and she said that if she'd had more kids she always swore she would homeschool them! It was a great experience, considering it was the DMV! lol
